Brugherio (MB)

Church in the new Cementery

1987

The position chosen to build the municipality of Brugherio’s cemetery chapel is lined up and set back 100 metres from the entrance gate. The basic geometrical shapes chosen to make up the chapel are a cylinder and a cone. The roof is covered in copper; the wall is made of exposed hand-thrown red bricks. The entrance is formed by a basic “pronaos” enclosed by coarse white concrete pillars. The same pillars enclose and protect the full-length, slim stained glass window at the back of the chapel. The floor is made of polished porphyry blocks laid in concentric circles.
